I enjoyed this book immensely. Sometimes books in this genre have characters that are not believable no matter how much license can be given, and end up just being silly. Not so in Herky Jerky. The author made them just kooky enough to seem real and, thus, likable. The author has a deft writing style and an excellent ear for dialogue. The tone is dead on. And it was funny, too. I thoroughly enjoyed this author's first book, River Rising, a seat-of-your pants thriller that I couldn't put down. Herky Jerky is more in the style of Elmore Leonard in which this author displays a similar deft comic touch as the crazy capers of these oddball characters careen all over California. This is another thoroughly enjoyable read, which allows the author to flex his considerable talent into a different style from his previous thriller. I highly recommend this book as I think you will quickly be drawn in and pulled along this cleverly constructed plot laughing and chuckling the whole way.
